“Imogen is one of the greatest musicians England has produced. She's utterly without show. Mozart, Schumann and Schubert could have been written for her. There's a poetic, reflective side to her which is always there in her playing.” - Sir Simon Rattle
Dame Imogen Cooper is renowned for her extraordinary ability to bring out the depth, poetry and human warmth of music. Her long career includes performances in major international venues with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics and the New York Philharmonic.
In Mänttä, Dame Imogen performs Beethoven's last three piano sonatas - an iconic set of pieces in which the composer explores the limits and depths of musical expression. In these sonatas Beethoven combines profound spirituality, innovative formal structures and unique emotional expressiveness, making them not only technically demanding but also philosophically and artistically significant.
This concert is a rare opportunity for music lovers to celebrate the finest traditions of classical piano music and the masterpieces of Beethoven's piano repertoire.
Artistic director of the Mänttä Music Festival, Niklas Pokki, will give an introduction to the concert (in Finnish) in the Kivijärvi hall at 18.00. The concert ends approximately at 20.15.
