“Everything Grosvenor touches turns to gold” - Classical Source

“A genius who has reached the height of his interpretive powers” - Spectator

English pianist Benjamin Grosvenor has quickly risen to the top of the piano world with interpretations that have been compared to those of the golden age of the piano. His captivating performances combine technical perfection with deep emotion. His extensive repertoire includes classics and rarer works - this season he has performed Busoni's epic concerto for piano soloist, orchestra and male choir.

In the Grosvenor's Mänttä programme, Schumann's romantic sensibility and rapture are combined with Mussorgsky's descriptive power.

Schumann's Blumenstück is a short but beautifully flowing work that reveals the composer's delicate and intimate expression. Schumann's iconic Fantasia in C major, on the other hand, is a quintessential work of full Romanticism, taking the listener deep into intense emotions and broad, melodic arcs.

Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is a unique musical journey in which the composer illustrates paintings and sketches by his late friend Viktor Hartmann. It is one of the most popular works in the piano literature, and no wonder - the work transports the listener into a rich and vivid musical world full of colour, imagination, humour and drama.

Artistic director of the Mänttä Music Festival, Niklas Pokki, will give an introduction to the concert (in Finnish) in the Kivijärvi hall at 18.00. The concert ends approximately at 20.15
